Former Samoa MP charged with assaulting village matai

A former Samoa MP and former president of the country's Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee is facing an assault charge.

Vaeolenofoafia Nu'u Tapasu Leung Wai will appear in court next week carged with assaulting a matai of his village.

Vaeolenofoafia was formerly an MP with the ruling HRPP party and intends to contest next year's poll for Faleata East.

He is charged along with another man from they village after a complaint by a high ranking orator that they assaulted him during a traditional ceremony.
