American Samoa's governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga has called on the entire territory to band together to forge new economic activities in the territory.

Lolo says the territory's economic future outlook is full of uncertainty, because of the uncertain future of two local canneries.

He says the territory saw a terrible financial impact in 2009 when one tuna factory closed down.

He says the territory's economy has been dependent on the canneries and the territorial government for decades but it is clear a new economic development strategy must be adopted and implemented.

Lolo is expected to give details of the new strategy when he addresses the Fono next month in his State of the Territory address.
