CNMI hospital to pay $14m arrears

The main hospital in the Northern Marianas has agreed to try and clear the 14 million US dollars it owes the territory's utility.

This week the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation signed a deal to clear arrears due to the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation.

The deal will also it to tap into renewable photovoltaic energy to power the hospital.

Under the deal, the hospital will initially pay US$250,000 of the millions it owes and then a minimum monthly payment of 150-thousand dollars.

The Healthcare Corporation's annual power bill runs at US$5 million a year and it wants to access to renewable energy to bring that number down.
