The National Fisheries Authority in Papua New Guinea says the country needs to ensure it has enough skilled workers with a planned expansion of the fishing sector next year.
Its managing director John Kasu says they will need on-shore processing workers and crew for fishing vessels.
The Post Courier reports that this week the NFA, the Education Department and the National Fisheries college sealed a deal to introduce training programs in vocational institutions to meet demand.
Mr Kasu says the NFA will provide the technical expertise and resources to facilitate the training.
