Fiji police say they have contacted foreign police forces to investigate an alleged plot to destabilise the government.

The acting police commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, has told the Fiji Times that overseas counterparts have been involved, but the report gives no further details.

He says investigations are continuing as police try to track down internet addresses of those allegedly discussing the plot with people in Fiji.

Last month, an internet cafe owner in Lautoka, Rajneel Singh, said he found details of plans to kill all MPs on an unattended computer in his cafe and called police - who he claims then assaulted him.

Mr Singh was briefly in hospital, guarded by the military.

The assault is being investigated.
