Social media in New Caledonia question why the website of the territory's only newspaper has pulled an article about the lavish life-style of the late president Jacques Lafleur's granddaughter.
The article was based on a Daily Mail Australia item which reproduced Clarissa Lafleur's own pictures of her holidays and her luxury car.
The report on the Nouvelles caledoniennes site, which was also put on its twitter feed, was taken off the site without explanation.
It has fuelled speculation that the publication was put under pressure to drop it.
New Caledonia's only daily has had a history of being curtailed in its work by political pressure or business interests.
