The Fiji government has unveiled new projects in Fiji's north including a highway, drinking water project, new schools and classroom blocks.

The Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama says the north, which includes Fiji's second biggest island of Vanua Levu, has a serious prospect for more economic development.

He is touring the region this week launching the projects which include a new 70 kilometre sealed highway in Bua.

Mr Bainimarama says the highway which includes 14 new bridges will attract new investors and increase land values.

He has also launched a new $US15,000 drinking water project in Macuata.

Mr Bainimarama says clean water is the first step to moving households up the ranks on the economic scale and bringing Fiji up to a new standard of living.
