The outgoing president of Kiribati Anote Tong says he has not finished his advocacy work on climate change and he is considering taking up an international role on the issue.

Mr Tong's presidency comes to an end next month as he has run the maximum three terms allowed in his country.

He has made his mark telling the world how his low-lying country is at the forefront of nations confronted by rising seas and changing weather patterns.

He said he has had some job offers and was considering a role directly involving the region.

"I have no intention of being so fully engaged again. I think I've had that. But I'm very willing to use the momentum that I've been able to gather. I think the mistake is to think we've done it. We haven't by any means."
