Water catchments around Rarotonga are at concerning levels according to government's Water Works Division.
Division manager Wilson Rani said water levels had slightly increased with recent rain, but it would not last long and heavy rain was needed.
Mr Rani said people had to start conserving water in order to minimise shortages.
He said with the El Nino dry spell, people needed to take the water shortage warnings seriously.
Mr Rani said his division was conducting frequent debris clearance within streams and repairing leaking pipes and valves in order to maintain water distribution throughout the network.
