The 21st Micronesian Chief Executives Summit is underway this week in the Palau capital Koror.

The bi-annual summit draws together leaders from Guam, Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and its four state governors of Chuuk, Yap, Pohnpei, and Kosrae.

The Mariana's Variety reports that key items up for discussion at this summit include climate change, invasive species, non-communicable diseases, solid waste management, energy needs, and telecommunications.

The Micronesian Chief Executives Summit was first hosted in Palau in 2003.

Since then, the meetings have resulted in a series of arrangements on regional cooperation and governance.
