American Samoa hospital suffers US$2.4m deficit

The LBJ Hospital in American Samoa has suffered a US$2.4 million deficit for the first quarter of this fiscal year.

The LBJ's first quarter performance report show revenues of just under US$10 million while expenses amounted to US$12.4 million.

Salaries was the biggest expense item at US$6.8 million or 55 percent of operating expenses.

The hospital spent US$3 million on pharmaceutical supplies or 24 percent of expenses.

Purchased services was another big expense at over US$650,000.

On the revenue side, Medicaid was the biggest earner at US$4.3 million.
