3:45 pm on 16 March 2016

In American Samoa at the end of the first day of jury selection in the case of murder defendant Siaumau Siaumau Jr, not a single juror was selected from the pool of close to 120.

About the same number of jurors will be screened today to select a panel of seven, six jurors and an alternate, to decide the fate of Siaumau, who is accused of the July 2010 shooting death of police detective Liusila Brown and the attempted murder of two other officers.

Our correspondent in American Samoa said a total of 300 potential jurors, picked from the American Samoa voter roll , would be questioned for any conflicts or biases.

The Assistant Public Defender Mike White is representing Siaumau while Deputy Attrorney General Mitzie Jessop Taase is the prosecutor.
