Half of the upgraded departures terminal at Fiji's main international airport will be opened in August.
The executive chairman of Airports Fiji, Faiz Khan, said a new check-in area at Nadi Airport would add extra space and natural light and would be a vast improvement on the old one.
He said in the current check-in area, a tall person could literally touch the ceiling, whereas the new ceiling would be seven times higher.
Mr Khan said the airport upgrade had been very challenging, and the contractors had had to work around an active airfield while keeping the terminal fully operational.
He also said Cyclone Winston, which struck nearly three months ago, had created its own set of challenges.
