Solomons unions want Ports CEO re-instated

1:23 pm on 13 May 2016

The Solomon Islands public sector trade unions have called on the government to reinstate the sacked chief executive of the Ports Authority, Colin Yow.

The unions made the call while giving full support to the Authority's reform programme following a meeting with Mr Yow.

They say their members fully understand the reforms and that Solomon Islands stands to benefit from them.

They claim the media has reported incorrect and untrue stories about the changes and say the critics' claims are out of line with what has been happening at the ports.

After being dismissed, Mr Yow left Solomon Islands, fearing for his personal safety.

He is seeking $US4,500,000 from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, for breaching his contract by removing him early.
