Austral flights cancelled amid Air Tahiti strike

A strike by some staff at Air Tahiti has prompted the cancellation of some internal French Polynesian flights.

The carrier said among others the flights from Papeete to the Austral Islands had been cancelled for at least four days.

A strike notice came into force at midnight after talks to resolve their grievances failed.

The stoppage was triggered over possible job losses in response to a sharp drop in domestic air travel.

The airline flies to 46 of French Polynesia's islands.
