The Solomon Islands Government is closely monitoring the security situation in Papua New Guinea to ensure the continued safety of its students studying there.

It said following the violence on Wednesday all Solomons' students at the UPNG were evacuated to the Ponderosa Hotel and other hotels for their safety.

It adds students studying at Unitech in Lae are being assisted by a local priest and are also safe and sound.

The Foreign Minister Milner Tozaka said all Solomons' students will remain where they are now being accommodated while the Government continues to monitor the security situation.

He said the Government was constantly in touch with the Solomons High Commission in Port Moresby and local authorities.
