Pacific Oceania have outclassed by hosts Iran in their opening Davis Cup tennis match in Asia/Oceania Zone Group Three.

Competing on clay at the Enghelab Sports Complex in Tehran, men's number one Heve Kelley of Tahiti was beaten 6-1 6-4 by Anoosha Shahgholi in the opening singles rubber before Fiji's William O'Connell was outclassed 6-1 6-1 on debut against Shahin Khaledan.

Brett Baudinet from Cook Islands and Guam's Daniel Llarenas won the decisive doubles match last year to earn promotion back to Group Three but found the step up a step too far, beaten 6-3 6-4 by Mohammad Karegaran and Amirvala Madanchi.

In the other Pool A fixture overnight, Hong Kong defeated Turkmenistan 2-1.

Meanwhile Lebanon and Qatar had 3-0 wins respectively against Cambodia and Singapore.

The two pool winners will play-off against the runners-up from the other pool to determine which two nations will earn promotion to Asia/Oceania Zone Group Two in 2017.

The bottom two teams will be relegated to Group Four.
