A Solomon Islands watchdog group says the government must help the public fight corruption.
This comes after Transparency Solomon Islands revealed that ten companies it says do not exist were paid $US1.9 million dollars of public money.
Transparency's executive officer, Ruth Liloqula, said they had been tipped off by the public but because of the government's failure to pass anti-corruption legislation the public feel helpless.
"They are coming to us, we are exposing this, but yes there are citizens being empowered but there are no support systems or mechanisms for citizens' activism in the fight against corruption to assist them, and to take the cases through."
