PNG Loop reports that establishing the taskforce is a resolution of the National Advisory Security Council, after threats of strike action aimed at pressuring the Prime Minister into stepping down.

The taskforce will operate under the command of the police commissioner with support from the defence force and the national intelligence organisation.

The Government chief secretary, Isaac Lupari, says the aim of this taskforce will be to investigate threats to national security.

He says politicians, students and any member of the community who issue threats will be investigated, arrested and prosecuted.
