A preparatory survey by the Japan International Cooperation Agency has found the building of a 1.3 megawatt wind power system is feasible in Tonga.

Matangi Tonga reports that the JICA survey during the past few weeks followed a request from the Tongan Government to Japan to help it with wind power generation systems.

The survey is expected to continue through to December with Japan's Cabinet expected to make for a final decision by May next year.

Tonga will also have to address related land issues, road and duty exemptions.

JICA has previously contributed toward Tonga's Energy Road Map, including expanding the country's solar power resources.
