The governor of Papua New Guinea's western province, Ati Wobiro, has been granted bail on medical grounds.

Wobiro was last month found guilty of conspiring to misappropriate provincial funds, and has spent the last week in prison.

He was convicted alongside two co-accused, the provincial administrator Modowa Gumoi, and the chief of the Fly Care Foundation, Norman Carl May, who have also been granted bail.

The court yesterday accepted medical reports that said all three men suffered serious heart porblems that need continued medical treatment, and that the prison did not have the required facilities.
