American Samoa College in dire financial straits

As the American Samoa Community College prepares for the new academic year, its financial situation remains precarious.

This was because the government's mandated subsidy lagged behind what the college needed.

Last week the College's chief financial officer Emey Silafau asked all division heads not to make any purchases.

The subsidy was based on enrolments and American Samoa's KHJ News reported the Government owed the community college $US9.4 million.
