It is part of a four year long initiative organised by the the Asian Development Bank to help people open bank accounts and undertake other formal economic activity.

So far the Microfinance Expansion Project has had more than 130,000 graduates throughout PNG.

The project aims to increase financial inclusion in PNG and support the financial and social empowerment of women.

An ADB official, Emma Fan, said women who graduate from this course take with them the knowledge needed to engage in the formal economy.

She said they can then share that knowledge with other women, helping drive a shift in women's economic empowerment.
