Tourist arrivals up for Northern Marianas

Tourist arrivals in the Northen Marianas increased by 63 percent last month, signalling a good recovery for the territory after Typhoon Soudelor in 2015.

The Marianas Visitors Authority said Saipan, Tinian and Rota registered 48,971 visitors last month, compared to just under 30,000 in August last year, soon after the cyclone hit.

Arrivals from South Korea have increased by 154 percent in August, while arrivals from China increased by 47 percent compared to August 2015.

However, arrivals from Japan fell 10 percent as the territory feels the effect of Delta Airlines cutting a second daily flight from Tokyo.
