Howard Politini to fill vacant seat in Fiji's parliament

5:31 pm on 24 September 2016

Fiji's electoral commission has confirmed that businessman Howard Politini will fill the vacant seat left in parliament by the resignation of former defence minister Timoci Natuva.

Mr Natuva, a former military colonel, resigned his portfolio and seat last month, citing family reasons.

The next person on the Fiji First party list was Brigadier General Apakuki Kurusiga.

But the FBC reports that he turned down the seat.

Mr Politini told the broadcaster he expects to be sworn in at next week's parliament session.
