New Zealander to help harness Vanuatu craft sector

A New Zealand woman living in Vanuatu is to advise the government on its Handicrafts Industry Action Plan.

Nicky Barnes, who owns a company dealing in handicrafts called Pandanus Consulting Services Vanuatu which has been operating in Port Vila for the last nine years, is now a special technical advisor to Department of Trade.

Her responsibilities are to co-ordinate all current and future projects in the handicraft sector, liaise with all producers throughout the 83 islands, and to develop 'Made in Vanuatu' terms and reference to define and categorise products.

Mrs Barnes who signed her contract with the Director General of Trade, Marokon Alilee, said she is confident of meeting the challenges.
