Six soldiers in Papua New Guinea have been committed to stand trial for the murder of a teenager in Port Moresby last year.

EMTV reports the Waigani District Court magistrate, John Kaumi, ruled there was sufficient evidence to commit the soldiers.

The court heard that in July last year two of the soldiers approached a group of secondary school students, and a fight broke out between them.

Later than evening, Jeremiah Yinu, who was a student at another secondary school, was badly assaulted by two of the then-drunken soldiers when he was mistaken for one of the earlier students.

He later died of his injuries.

The six soldiers have been granted bail until they next appear before court at the end of the month.
