The Vanuatu Prime Minister Charlot Salwai says it is sad that pilots the government trains end up driving buses and taxis.

He said the government invests a lot of financial resources to train pilots and also invests a lot in the airline company to create employment for them.

But he said many end up unemployed or lose their jobs without valid reasons and find themselves replaced by pilots from Eastern Europe.

Mr Salwai was speaking during this week's meeting of the Association of South Pacific Airlines in Port Vila.

He said as the main shareholder in Air Vanuatu his government is disappointed with the current management and wants them to learn from other airlines attending the meeting.
