The general manager, Lemalu Ray Ah Liki, says the scheme will help those families to develop the land through farming in order to help them financially as well as to be able to pay back the loan.

According to Lemalu, a $US 500 dollar loan would be a significant amount to start a small vegetable garden or a food stall.

He says the bank has also endorsed opening the scheme to low income families to extend businesses such as a restaurant, fabric production, or any other small operation.
