Fiji agency says no to human rights march

The Fiji Roads Authority has rejected a planned Human Rights Day march in Suva next month.

The NGO Coalition for Human Rights says it is disappointed that its application has been rejected to have a one-hour march on 10 December.

It says the Roads Authority described the march as unnecessary, causing traffic disruptions and an inconvenience to the people of Fiji.

The NGO says the day is celebrated world-wide commemorating the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
