Defending Olympic Sevens and World Series champions Fiji have missed out on more silverware for the second consecutive week.

The Fijians finished the Cape Town tournament in fifth place after defeating Kenya 33-21 in a playoff match this morning.

Earlier they had lost 31-26 to eventual champions England in the Cup quarterfinals after finishing top of their pool.

England beat hosts South Africa to win the tournament in a thrilling final.

South Africa had the opportunity to send the game into extra time with a sideline conversion attempt in the dying seconds.

The kick missed and England won 19-17.

In last week's Dubai tournament South Africa beat Fiji in the cup final.

Meanwhile Samoa lost their final two games in Cape Town, 17-14 to Russia in the challenge trophy quarterfinal and then 26-24 to Canada to finish the tournament alongside Japan at the bottom of the rankings.

New Zealand finished third after losing to hosts South Africa in the Cup semi-finals, before beating Scotland 24-19 in their playoff match.
