Cricket PNG's CEO Greg Campbell has paid tribute to the national sides of Papua New Guinea.
Campbell said 2016 was a challenging but very rewarding year for PNG.
Campbell made the statement as part of his end of year review.
He said the national teams had very successful campaigns with the Barramundis starting the year with a hard fought defeat to Ireland, before defeating Kenya at home in the ICC World Cricket League Championships.
They then travelled to Australia to compete in the South Australian Cricket Association Premier League where they finished a respectable third before defeating Namibia in the ICUP and WCLC matches at home.
Campbell said the Barramundis went from strength to strength and they have a wonderful opportunity to finish in the top four of both the ICUP and WCLC next year.
The CEO said the Lewas also had a very successful year, winning the ICC East Asia Pacific Women's Trophy in Samoa without losing a single match.
The victory meant that they qualified for the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier in Sri Lanka in February.
Campbell said one of the highlights of the year was successfully hosting ICUP and WCLC matches in Port Moresby.
He hoped to be able to host official ODI Matches in the new year with work starting on grounds and offices very shortly.
The aim is to get Amini Park an Official ODI Rating by the end of March.
Campbell said they are still trying to find solutions to the issues of a lack of cricket grounds in Port Moresby and around the country.
He said this will be an ongoing project but they are confident the Government and other partners will assist.
