A 13-year-old boy in French Polynesia is being held for questioning for allegedly beating to death a boy of the same age.
A criminal investigation has been opened into the incident.
Reports say that the victim had left a hospital when he was attacked by three boys in Maharepa on the island of Moorea.
The reports say witnesses of the situation tried to intervene.
Emergency services were called but the teenager died of his injuries.
There will be an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
