Fiji international Ben Volavola has signed a one-year contract with Australian Super Rugby side Melbourne Rebels following a stint in New Zealand with the Crusaders.

The 25 year-old flyhalf, who started all four of Fiji's games at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, had joined the Crusaders from the Waratahs to help fill the void left by the departure of Dan Carter.

The FBC reports Volavola says he struggled to get playing time at the Crusaders with Richie Mo'unga being preferred ahead of him.

Volavola originally signed a two-year contract with the Crusaders but was released late last year.
