Ratu Isoa trial begins in Fiji today

The suspended Fiji MP Ratu Isoa Tikoca goes on trial today over alleged breaches of Fiji's electoral rules.

FBC News reports the Defence Minister and former Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has been summoned as one of the defence witnesses in the trial relating to Ratu Isoa's time as Fiji's representative in Papua New Guinea.

It's alleged Ratu Isoa failed to declare his liabilities incurred to the Fijian government during his tenure as Fiji's High Commissioner to PNG.

Fiji's Independent Commission Against Corruption has brought the charges against the Sodelpa MP who was elected in the 2014 polls.

He was suspended from parliament in September until the end of the term accused of making racist remarks.

Defence Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has also been summoned as a witness for Ratu Isoa.
