The police in Papua New Guinea are clamping down on the misuse of police vehicles.

The acting police commissioner Raphael Huafolo has ordered the strict monitoring and control of the vehicles which he says are often being used outside work hours for non work purposes.
He said the practice was cutting into already limited police resources.
The police chief said vehicles suspected of being misused are to be searched and impounded and officers involved would face disciplinary action.
He also put a ban on police vehicles being parked outside betelnut markets, hotels, poker venues and other areas unless they were there for official duty.
Mr Huafolo wanted people to report back if they saw police cars parked in such areas for long periods.
