A Samoan prisoner has had more time added to his sentence after he admitted to the attempted rape of a foreign woman, and one count of theft.

24 year-old, Daniel Vailopa, will serve three-and-a-half years after serving his current two year sentence in July for separate criminal charges.

According to the police summary of facts Vailopa had stolen the victim's mobile phone and tried to take her into a secluded area near a popular tourist spot.

The offences took place when the woman was out for an early morning walk.

Vailopa had committed the offences while he was on the run from Tafaigata prison in 2015 with several other prisoners.

The other prisoners have already been sentenced for the escape.
