Tahiti's Tahoeraa gets new assembly member

An assembly member of French Polynesia's Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party has vacated her seat.

Alice Tinuroa quit her seat to allow the next on the list, the Moorea mayor Evans Haumani, to take over.

The move is reportedly aimed at bolstering the standing of Mr Haumani ahead of next year's territorial election.

The Tahoeraa was the biggest party after the last election but a split in its ranks has relegated it to an opposition role.
