Papua New Guinea's Police Commissioner has announced that over 10,000 security personnel will be deployed during this year's elections.

Gari Baki said a total of 10,600 security personnel would be deployed from the Police Force, the Defence Force and Correctional Services.

Commissioner Baki indicated that some provinces deemed high security risk areas would take precedence over areas of lesser risk, in terms of the deployment of security forces.

Polling for the five yearly-general elections is expected to get underway in late June, and run for at least two weeks.
