Fiji's police commissioner says any officers who are convicted for serious offences will be removed from the force.

The FBC reports that eleven police officers were charged last month; ten were charged with assault causing bodily harm, while another was charged with the theft of a laptop.

The commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, said he did not condone officers breaking the law.

He said that when an officer was charged they would be put on interdiction and paid half their salary, and they would be removed from the force if convicted.
