Tonga diplomat visits PNG, reaffirms Games support

Tonga's High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea has presented her credentials in Port Moresby during a three day visit.

Matangi Tonga reported that Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku'aho met with both PNG's new governor-general, Bob Dadae, and prime minister Peter O'Neill.

She also reaffirmed PNG's commitment to assist Tonga in preparation for the Pacific Games in 2019.

PNG has committed just over $US15 million has been set aside to support Tonga's hosting of the Games, including the refurbishment of Teufaiva National Stadium in Nuku'alofa.

The Princess has diplomatic accreditation to Papua New Guinea with ambassadorial residence in Canberra, in addition to her duties as High Commissioner of Tonga to Australia.

Tonga and PNG have had diplomatic relations since 1980.
