The Northern Marianas governor Ralph Torres has met President Donald Trump in the White House to discuss CNMI economic issues, including the Chinese visa-waiver programme.
The CNMI's economy is highly dependent on foreign workers but federal rules cap the number that can be in the country at any one time.
Mr Torres met Mr Trump in the Oval Office.
The governor asked for the CW visa programme to continue, telling Mr Trump that an adequate workforce is critical to the economic success of the CNMI.
He said President Trump and chief of staff Reince Priebus both committed to working with the governor on this crucial programme.
Mr Trump noted during the visit that Mr Torres was the first territorial governor to support and endorse his presidential candidacy.
