Fiji's Nair quits foreign ministry

9:44 am on 9 April 2017

Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Robin Nair has resigned and left the government with immediate effect.

The Public Service Commission says the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Yogesh Karan will assume Mr Nair's duties in an acting capacity.

Mr Nair told the Fiji Sun that he wanted to relax and would pursue his passion in writing.

He said after working 20 years for Australia's foreign service he returned to Fiji in 2008.

Mr Nair said he came to fix a few things and that things now look a lot better.

He had also served as ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
