Drainage work at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium is due to start this week after the arrival of a shipment of materials from New Zealand.

Matangi Tonga reports the laying down of the new drainage system will start alongside the Tongan government's work to upgrade the toilet facilities.

The work is all part of efforts to get the venue ready to host the 2019 Pacific Games.

Stage one of the works is to be completed by June, with stage two set for December completion.

This part of the project is funded through a development initiative from the New Zealand government with the construction of the track and stadium to be funded by Papua New Guinea.

The Teufaiva reconstruction has been plagued with uncertainty in recent months with a scheduled rugby international against Wales moved to Auckland because of the ground's state of disrepair.
