The general manager and the financial controller of Vanuatu's national broadcaster have been suspended ahead of their redundancy later this month.

The Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation's board chair Johnety Jerety has confirmed Fred Vurobaravu and Roy Fred's suspension took effect from Friday.

He said one of the main reasons for their suspension was because the broadcaster had been operating in overdraft for so long.

He said the pair were among the first staff to undergo redundancy at the end of the month.

Mr Jerety said their positions had been advertised and six applications had been received.

Mr Jerety said the board's main aim was to strengthen the corporation's management and rescue the company.
