Former CNMI cop jailed for beating his police officer wife

The Northern Marianas Superior Court has sentenced a former police officer to one-year in jail for beating up his wife, who is a police officer.

39 year-old Ramon Saures Kaipat, who hit his wife several times on the head and body, was given the heaviest possible sentence for the offence.

Kaipat has had two prior convictions for disturbing the peace and assault and battery.

He also has two restraining orders involving his wife and another woman.

Kaipat has also had eight traffic cases, including one for driving drunk.
