The Met Service yesterday cancelled cyclone alerts for the country, saying the threat had passed, but has now issued a Tropical Cyclone Warning for Rotuma in Fiji's north.

It said that at 3pm local time today, Ella was 150 kilometres east of Rotuma, tracking west-northwest at 22km/h.

Close to its centre the cyclone is expected to have average winds of up to 75km/h, and momentary gusts of up to 100km/h.

The Met Service says that at 9am tomorrow, Ella is expected to be about 145 kilometres west-southwest of Rotuma.
