New inter-island ferry commissioned in Tonga

The King of Tonga has officially commissioned a new inter island ferry for the island of 'Eua.

The MV Maui arrived at Nuku'alofa Harbour on Saturday.

The chairman of the 'Eua Sea Transport Council Paula Vehituai, said the Maui double-hull ferry was initially due in Tonga for last month's Royal Agriculture show, but there were technical holdups.

Radio Tonga reports the 750-thousand US dollar double-hulled vessel has been jointly funded by the people of 'Eua and the through a loan from the Tongan Development Bank.
