A legal battle between members of the Kiribati Uniting Church and the church's trustees over a name change has come to an end with the Court of Appeal dismissing the case.

Formerly known as the Kiribati Protestant Church, the name was changed in 2014 by a vote of the congregation's general assembly.

The appeal followed a High Court decision that the manner in which the name was changed was justifiable under the church's constitution

The Court of Appeal upheld the High Court 's judgment and ruled the trustees were entitled to costs.
