American Samoa's government is predicting a seven percent loss in revenue from the looming temporary closure of a tuna cannery.
The Starkist Cannery said it would shut down for five weeks in late October for upgrades and to install new equipment.
The governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, had asked cabinet directors to practice diligence in expending local funds in the face of the forecast revenue loss.
However, he said while the closure was unwelcome, its timing - at the beginning of the government's fiscal year - was fortunate, as it provides a broader window to minimise its impact.
